A previously unreleased transcription of "La Mer" for two pianos. Pascal Rogé has long been regarded as one of the great interpreters of the French repertoire. For his new recording on Onyx, Pascal is joined by his wife Ami for a program of French masterpieces for orchestra by Debussy and Ravel in arrangements for two pianos. The arrangement of La Mer was written by Pascal Rogé himself, while the others are by the composers. Maurice Ravel's transcription (1908) of Debussy's Fêtes in the words of distinguished musicologist Maurice Hinson, "was transcribed for two pianos with singular art, the best original writing on this subject." The Ravel is a suite in four movements for two pianos: "Prélude à la nuit," "Malagueña," "Habanera," and "Feria." It was written in a few weeks in October 1895, and built around the "Habanera." The interpretation by our two partners Ami & Pascal Rogé reveals all the creativity and incredible melodic sense of these composers.
