On *Emotion*, a vocal-led album with rumba and salsa influences, including a cover of Otis Redding's "Fa Fa Fa Fa" sung in a duet with Juliet Roberts, Papa Wemba collaborated with Lokua Kanza, Jean-Philippe Rykiel, and British producer Stephen Hague. The album went gold in the United States, selling over 500,000 copies, and the artist was named Best African Artist in his category by the American press in 1996.
