Markus Popp (Oval) is considered one of the creators and early pioneers of the "glitch" or "clicks & cuts" styles of the electronic music scene. Popp has been awarded multiple times, including by BBC's "2010s Best," QWARTZ "Best Experimental Music," and was ranked by Pitchfork "No.7 best Ambient album of all time."
Popp has participated in long-term projects such as Microstoria (with Jan St. Werner) and has appeared on numerous records by artists such as Björk, with other notable credits for creating soundtracks for various leading clients (Armani, Comme Des Garcons, Issey Miyake, Prada, SONY). On his new album Romantiq, Popp delivers his lightest and most delicate sounds to date. Like the plucking of a harp's strings, Popp's organic and playful approach to sound is warm and bright. Oval is continually perplexing in its ability to produce such light and evocative sounds from software.
