It was on Outkast's debut album that the young production team of Organized Noize began to forge one of the '90s music's most distinctive production sounds: part hip-hop; part live, fried-out Southern guitar licks and thick bottom-end; and part sleepy, early-'70s soul. The album was not only an artistic success but also prospered commercially, charting in the Top 20 albums thanks to the hit single "Player's Ball" and eventually going platinum. But what makes "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" such a wonderful album has even more to do with the presence of its rhymers, Dre and Big Boi.
