Kullervo

Description

Kalevala is a Finnish epic telling a series of stories of magic and adventure. One of the main characters is Kullervo, a fallible hero whose tragic story is told over the course of six songs. Kalevala also represented a strong symbol of independence for Finns in conflict against Russia.
The artist Jean Sibelius, who passed away in 1891, was a young music student from Vienna whose Kalevala is the most ambitious project.
This recording was made live at Symphony Hall in Minneapolis under the direction of Osmo Vänskä accompanied by the Minnesota Orchestra and Finnish artists Lilli Paasikivi, Tommi Hakala as well as the prestigious YL Male Voice choir.
