Description

Author of a thesis on Ravel's piano music, which earned him a first prize at the CNSM in Paris, André Jorrand obtained a degree in composition and orchestration in Henri Dutilleux's class at the Ecole Normale de Musique. Although contemporary with the avant-gardists, André Jorrand favors the classical form. His distinctly French style has been influenced by the metrics of Albert Roussel, the harmony of Arthur Honegger, and that of Olivier Messiaen. His tonality owes nothing to the Vienna School or its disciples. It is expressed through the rhythmic quality of his lively movements, while the intimacy of his lyricism finds its ideal setting in a contemplative harmony. His music is moving, vibrant, full of colors, rich in intensity and freshness. Founder of the "Music at the Heart of Tapestry" Festival in Adusson, André Jorrand is also a painter, poet, organist... humanist.
