Description

The second album by conductor Robert Trevino, dedicated to the orchestral works of Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) and recorded with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, includes Respighi's monumental orchestral masterpiece, the "Sinfonia Drammatica". This large-scale symphony, influenced by Strauss, lasts over 60 minutes. Several critics have noted similarities with César Franck's Symphony in D minor, particularly in its cyclical structure, while echoes of Richard Strauss and Rimsky-Korsakov can be heard throughout the work, not only in the orchestral music but also in the contour of certain melodic lines. And although Wagner is not generally considered one of Respighi's main sources of inspiration, the influence of the German composer is palpable.
