SERENDIPITY (double vinyl gatefold + carte MP3)

Description

"Orchard is an invitation to a stationary journey, to slow down and consider time differently, to free oneself from musical labels as Tortoise once did, an ambient rock that would have integrated all the notion of jazz freedom." It was only a matter of time before Stéphane Grégoire - artistic director of the ICI D'AILLEURS label - was once again seized by this desire he is now well-known for, to provoke improbable encounters between artists he holds dear. This new proposition is called Orchard and follows This Immortal Coil and Numbers Not Names. These unique projects in the catalog, which could also be described as gambles, have a simple objective: to give life to an intuition. In late October 2016, the four musicians in question - Aidan Baker (Nadja), Gaspar Claus (Pedro Soler, Angélique Ionatos...), Franck Laurino (Zëro) and Maxime Tisserand (Chapelier Fou) - met for the first time. The recording took place at L'Autre Canal in Nancy. The sessions were intensive, creating an extremely particular working environment in which the musicians were confined. From this climate, a strong cohesion spontaneously emerged, leading the group to produce a real break with its environment, effortlessly freeing itself from the hermetic walls of the studios to imagine organic music, like the photographs by Francis Meslet that illustrate the cover. All that remained was to find a name for the whole. It would be Serendipity, confirming the idea that bringing diverse talents together in the same room could only lead to the discovery of a surprising, extraordinary entity.
