After exploring the music of the 19th and 20th centuries, Ophélie Gaillard returns with her ensemble Pulcinella to the baroque sources to highlight Luigi Boccherini, Italian composer and the first virtuoso cellist in history. Just like the Suites of Johann Sebastian Bach, Boccherini's scores give the instrument its letters of nobility. He is to the cello what Vivaldi was, a generation before him, to the violin. From his native Tuscany to the courts of Prussia, the career of this brilliant musician is marked by travels across Europe, all the way to Spain. From the frenzied dance rhythms of Andalusia to the nocturnal atmosphere of the streets of Madrid, Boccherini "captures" this adopted country in music. This two-volume portrait album explores all genres (concertos, sonatas, symphonies) and invites the essential soprano Sandrine Piau to interpret the poignant pages of his vocal masterpiece: the Stabat Mater.
