The New York jazz group is back with a third rhythmic and magnificently composed EP.
Over the past few months, and through their live collaborations with Nick Hakim, Princess Nokia, and Dev Hynes, Onyx Collective has begun to make a name for themselves on the cool New York jazz scene. Their leader, Isaiah Barr, also appears on three tracks from David Byrne's latest album and made a saxophone cameo with Ibeyi on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
These New York jazz scene "UFOs" have already released two EPs ("Lower East Side Part One and Two"), recorded DIY-style in live conditions during their improvised performances in venues, galleries, and music stores. Previously, they had released a collection of live recordings via the highly selective streetwear brand Supreme in 2016. Adored by Pitchfork, Fader, etc., the French newspaper Libération recently dedicated an article to them, calling them the future of jazz. This first album, "Lower East Side Part 3," will be released on June 15, and the cover art was once again created by artist Julian Schnabel.
