AFTER DARK is the latest project from French producer Onra, designed as the soundtrack to an imaginary film set late at night. Entirely self-produced, the album continues the sophisticated direction of R&B and Modern Soul explored since his classic Long Distance (2010) and his accomplished Nobody Has To Know (2018), drawing inspiration from the sounds of the late 80s and early 90s. Structured like a film unfolding between dusk and dawn, AfterDark addresses themes of intimacy, urban solitude, distance, and discreet pleasures. Analog synthesizers, precise drum programming, subtle bass lines, and touches of live saxophone shape a coherent whole that prioritizes atmosphere and narrative over excess. The sequence of tracks reinforces its cinematic intention, with introductory and concluding pieces framing the album like a unified nocturnal narrative.
