Born in St Brieuc, Olivier Robin grew up in Orléans where he started playing the drums at the age of 15. His teacher, a fan of Buddy Rich, first encouraged him to listen to Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, and Tony Williams. Olivier then gained his first experience in a local club. He moved to Paris in the mid-80s, where he enrolled in the conservatory for classical percussion. At the same time, he regularly toured Germany with a Berlin Free Jazz group. In July 1991, he finally participated in the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music. There, he studied with drummer and educator Keith Copeland and performed with Kenny Wheeler and Steve Coleman. Additionally, he formed a Quintet in 2004 with Sébastien Jarrousse, which released two critically acclaimed albums, (Tribulation and Dream Time). He premiered the Jazz-Theatre show (A Love Supreme) in tribute to John Coltrane at the Tarmac de La Villette in 2005, which enjoyed great success. He toured in about ten countries and gave over 150 performances. In 2016, he released the album (Jungle Box) as a leader and composer. A high-level Quintet led by drummer Olivier Robin, it passionately and elegantly draws inspiration from the great moments of jazz. Timeless and delightful Hard-Bop.
