From 1856 to 1865, Johannes Strauss II traveled every year to St. Petersburg in Russia to participate, as a composer and conductor, in the summer festival organized by the city. On the program: Polkas, waltzes, marches, and other pastoral music beautifully performed at the Vauxhall Pavilion in Pavlovsk.
