Concertos pour piano numéro 20 et numéro 23

Description

Two years after her recording of Mozart's Concertos No. 9 and 17, keyboardist Olga Pashchenko reunites with the ensemble Il Gardellino for Concertos No. 20 KV 466 and 23 KV 488. The twentieth concerto is in D minor, a key that Mozart often uses in his operas to express the anger of his female characters. Composed a year later in 1786, No. 23 is written in the bright key of A major, while still retaining the theatrical dynamism of Concerto No. 20. A theatricality that is almost dramatic and pre-Romantic for Nicolas Derny, who sees in these concertos the beginnings of two masterpieces by Mozart: the Requiem and The Marriage of Figaro. For this recording, Olga Pashchenko plays on a replica of an Anton Walter fortepiano (ca. 1792) built by Paul McNulty.
