The richness of poetic and musical resources from the past extends as far as the ear can hear. It is this conviction that drives Carrouge, the new album from the choir Ôka. Its eight pioneering singers, led by Elsa Lambey, draw from the archives and collections of Burgundy and the Alps to revive a traditional repertoire in regional languages and French. Rough and inventive polyphonies, stories of transformations, fountains, wind, and women — a peasant background that has lost none of its vibrant strength.
