Oded Tzur, leading his quartet with pianist Nitai Hershkovits, double bassist Petros Klampanis, and newcomer drummer Cyrano Almeida, continues his journey with 'My Prophet'. He pursues the unique musical path he embarked on in previous albums, developing a fluid jazz through a wide diversity of expressive forms.
Further deepening the meditative aspect of his extremely focused playing, the saxophonist offers some of his most intense improvisations to date. The quartet's organic dimension gives the music its unique character, with each musician contributing the singularity of their voice to a collective discourse capable of evoking the paradoxical silence at the heart of a storm as much as engaging in passionate surges of power. Hershkovits' voluble and fluid piano phrases envelop the incomparable sound of Oded's tenor saxophone, while Klampanis, on his double bass, provides the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic foundation for the ensemble, admirably supported by Almeida's drumming. This third album from Oded for ECM was recorded in the south of France under the artistic direction of Manfred Eicher.
