Melhor Do Que Parece

Description

Mr Bongo is proud to present the reissue, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of O Terno’s cult contemporary Brazilian album “Melhor do Que Parece,” released in 2016. Ranked among the best albums of 2016 by Rolling Stone Brazil, this record is a subtle blend of psychedelic rock and indie, inspired by Tropicália and rich in influences from the 60s and 70s. It remains as current and relevant as it was 10 years ago. O Terno is made up of three emblematic figures of today’s Brazilian independent scene: Tim Bernardes on vocals and guitar, Guilherme d'Almeida on bass, and Gabriel Basile on drums. Since O Terno’s hiatus in 2024, each has established himself as an influential figure on the Brazilian scene, both through solo projects and collaborations with other artists. Bernardes has become an international musical ambassador, with two solo albums nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, collaborations with artists as diverse as Gal Costa, Fleet Foxes, Maria Bethânia and Jards Macalé, and a prominent place among musicians linked to the 1970s scene. Basile has worked closely with Sessa and appears on albums by SOYUZ, anaiis, Bruno Berle and many others. Basile and Guilherme are also part of Grand Bazaar, an electronic music ensemble with Gypsy, Balkan, Mediterranean and Brazilian influences. Recorded over an intense three-month period, during which the trio spent twelve hours a day in the studio, Melhor do Que Parece offers a rich, exploratory and kaleidoscopic listen. It features influences from major Brazilian names such as Os Mutantes and the magnificent string arrangements of Rogério Duprat, as well as iconic European and American bands from the 60s and 70s, drawn from all horizons. These influences intertwine in an experimental DIY indie aesthetic where saturated guitars sit alongside lush string sections. No moment on “Melhor do Que Parece” is superfluous; it sounds almost like a greatest-hits compilation and is rightly considered a landmark work.
