Le devin du village

Description

And what if Le Devin du Village by Rousseau has been waiting for you for two centuries at the Théâtre de la Reine du Petit Trianon? On September 19, 1780, Marie-Antoinette was on stage, in costume, performing with her Troupe des Seigneurs for an intimate audience. That evening, she sang the role of Colette, the heroine of this one-act opera composed in 1753 by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (yes, the philosopher!), perhaps the most famous work of his time. This exceptional evening, a true fantasy of the Queen dreaming of being a shepherdess, is brought back to life under the direction of Sébastien d’Hérin in a costumed reconstruction, staged in the original historical settings! A bonus DVD of the entire performance accompanies this recording.
