Making her debut on the Montreux stage on June 16, 1968, for the second edition of the festival, the artist built a lasting relationship with the Montreux Jazz Festival and its creator and director Claude Nobs, whose unique character, trust, and electricity are clearly perceptible in the recordings. The radical and multifaceted story of Nina Simone is laid bare on "Nina Simone: The Montreux Years." From Nina's glorious and emotional performance in 1968 to her fiery and unpredictable concert in 1976, one of the most remarkable performances ever seen at the festival, the collection includes recordings from her five legendary concerts at Montreux - 1968, 1976, 1981, 1987, and 1990. With rare and unreleased documents from Claude Nobs' extensive collection of recordings, Nina Simone fans around the world will be thrilled to hear the powerful song "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free," the poignant and fearless "Four Women," and the beautiful rendition of "Ne Me Quitte Pas." A chilling version of "Stars" by Janis Ian, which Nina Simone covered for the very first time during her 1976 concert in Montreux, is paired with her bold and electrifying reinterpretation of Bob Marley's ballad "No Woman No Cry" in 1990. The collection concludes with the encore from Nina Simone's final concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival and one of Simone's most cherished and well-known recordings, the exuberant "My Baby Just Cares For Me," which highlights the deep and multidimensional facets of her life and music. The CD edition of "Nina Simone: The Montreux Years" will also include the complete recording of Simone's historic 1968 concert. This is the first time the entire concert will be available on CD.
