Description

The solo project 'Aftermath' by composer Niels Ronsholdt (born in 1978) takes us on the American roads, exploring declining cities and landscapes while reflecting on a fragmented modern society. The classic dream of freedom associated with the "road trip" gives way to a disoriented solitude and regret; however, faint glimmers of hope - embodied by spring and new generations - eventually emerge. For 'Aftermath', Ronsholdt draws his inspiration from the traditions of Americana and singer-songwriter music. Although trained in classical composition, he constantly seeks to push the boundaries of genres: “I consider 'Aftermath' to be the natural extension of my work around what I call 'composition by method'. I describe what I encounter using the language specific to the place itself,” he explains. 'Aftermath' is inspired by varied impressions, such as the first signs of spring in Brooklyn, a run-down motel in Memphis, or the remnants of Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans.
