Jazz Circus
Description
Nicolas Montier was born in 1955 in Paris. A self-taught jazzman, his curiosity drives him to try almost every instrument, before particularly choosing the saxophone and guitar. Over the years, Nicolas has become one of the pillars of the Petit Journal and all his performances are synonymous with excellence. Whether with the Jazz Circus, during his "Carte blanches à" or also with his quartet or as a sideman in other orchestras, all his appearances leave a lively and warm memory for an audience that asks for more!Nicolas performs during concerts or recordings with musicians such as Clark Terry, Benny Carter, Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, Lavelle, Spike Robinson, Butch Miles, Duffy Jackson, Diane Schuur, Eddy Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Lew Tabackin, Claude Tissendier, André Villeger, François Biensan, Irakli, Alain Jean-Marie, François Laudet, Marc Richard, Michel Pastre, Jean Pierre Morel, Pierre-Yves Sorin, Daniel Huck, Stan Laferrière, Guy Lafitte, Gérard Badini, Philippe Milanta...
His love for "big bands" leads him to participate in prestigious large formations: Super Swing Machine by Gérard Badini, Saxomania, Stan Laferrière 10 tet, Paris Swing Orchestra, Michel Pastre big band, St Louis big band, François Biensen 8tet and for the past ten years François Laudet big band.
At the same time, he is the guitarist of Stan Laferrière's 4tet (Tribute to Nat King Cole) and the baritone saxophonist of the Marc Richard 4tet. Finally, he leads a 5tet, a 4tet, and a trio whose CDs are regularly broadcast on TSF and whose concerts receive an excellent reception.
He has recorded about forty CDs, including five under his name: 1990 Trio Colas, 1991 Back to Live, 1991 Lullaby (commission from Japan), 1994 Pluie de Jazz, 2002 Nicolas Montier 5tet, 2004 “Interdit d’écouter” (Partnership TSF / CD of the week Jazz à FIP / Monde de la Musique: 4 stars.)
The festivals of Nice, Edinburgh, Maastricht, Bayonne, Toulouse, Riom, La Teste, Hinx, Marciac, Montauban, Sion & Ascona (Switzerland), Breda (Holland), Juan-les-Pins, Auckland etc. regularly invite him. This new album was recorded live at the Petit Journal Montparnasse on October 27, 2022, with his formation "JAZZ CIRCUS".
The Montier Jazz Circus is composed of musicians from the former Kings of the Fox-Trot, an orchestra that has been in existence for over 20 years, with numerous concerts and tours to its credit. This experience brings to this formation an exceptional osmosis and remarkable cohesion. The Montier Jazz Circus, this mini big band, under the direction of the saxophonist/arranger: Nicolas Montier, interprets works by Duke Ellington as well as personal compositions in the style of the swing years (forties). A high-flying music! There is no doubt that you will be captivated by the incredible performances of the Montier Jazz Circus.
