Long considered lost, the Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Hob. VIIb:1 by Haydn was found in 1961 at the National Museum in Prague. According to the eminent Haydn specialist, H. C. Robbins Landon, it is a "major discovery of our time and surely one of the most beautiful works of this period." The Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major, Hob. VIIb:2 was long attributed to Anton Kraft, and it wasn't until 1951 that the discovery of an autograph manuscript finally gave justice to Haydn, its true composer. Completed in 1965, the Rondo for Cello and String Orchestra, Op. 9 by Jacques Hétu, was premiered on Radio-Canada by Arpad Szomoru with the Radio-Canada Chamber Orchestra in Quebec. The first concertante work by Jacques Hétu, then 27 years old, the Rondo showcases his taste for classical forms, his skill in making the strings sound, and his solid contrapuntal craft.
