In 1970, Island released "Bryter Layter," Nick Drake's second album. He was accompanied by members of Fairport Convention and John Cale. John Wood, the sound engineer, attempted a more "pop" approach, seeking to move away from the somewhat austere sound of "Five Leaves Left," released in 1969.
