His exceptional musicality, independence of spirit, extraordinary artistic inventiveness, as well as the rigor of his playing, are praised worldwide; for years, he has sold out theaters around the globe in just a few hours. Born in Brazil, Nelson Freire gave his first recital at the age of 4. By the age of 14, he was traveling the world and formed an early 'dynamic duo' with Argentine pianist Martha Argerich. The box set contains, adorned with their original covers, the first recordings made for Columbia between 1968 and 1970, some of the most significant of his career and unavailable in stores for over ten years: among them, the Piano Concertos (Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Schumann) conducted by Rudolf Kempe, the "Edison Prize" for the 28 Preludes of Chopin, and a large number of major Sonatas by Chopin, Liszt & Brahms.
