When popular music and learned music merge for the pleasure of the moment This new album by the Neapolis Ensemble highlights the game that composers such as Adrian Willaert, Roland de Lassus, Giovanni Pergolesi and many others engaged in: transforming popular music into learned music, and vice versa. Thanks to these composers, we witnessed the birth of thousands of villanelles in the Neapolitan language and the introduction of the tarantella and popular song into opera buffa. The Neapolis Ensemble brings out this aspect by blending baroque instruments such as the cello or flute with typically popular instruments such as tambourines, guitar or mandole. This instrumentation also makes it possible to restore to these works the lightness that lies at the heart of the Neapolitan musical tradition, a tradition that holds that music should above all be a pleasure of everyday life.
