Sonates pour flûte

In the year 1700, Corelli published in Rome the 12 sonatas for violin opus 5. A true revolution in violin technique, they garnered admiration from prominent composers (Bach, Dandrieu, Couperin) and greatly influenced the French (Francoeur, Leclair, Senaillé, Quentin) who would attempt this Italian style that is both virtuosic and brilliant. By the end of the 1730s, the first six sonatas of opus 5 were "arranged for the transverse flute with bass" by a Parisian publisher. The level of virtuosity they require is quite innovative. This demonstration of virtuosity is also found in the compositions of Jean-Baptiste Quentin, known as Le Jeune. We have very few biographical details about Quentin himself, but all of his work is greatly inspired by Italian music and is heavily influenced by Corelli.
