Description

Myriam Gendron's album "Not So Deep As A Well," both sweet and sorrowful, achieved unexpected success upon its initial release in 2014. Her debut album cast a warm light on a curious and captivating new voice in the Quebec folk scene. Nearly ten years after its release in Canada and America, "Not So Deep As A Well" is being released for the first time in Europe this autumn, with a new pressing on the Basin Rock label (Julie Byrne, Aoife Nessa Frances, Trevor Beales) that includes two tracks not featured on the original version—'Bric-à-brac' and 'The Small Hours'—both written and recorded in early 2014. Recorded alone in her apartment, with no sound engineering knowledge, it could almost be a lost artifact, a dusty document from a forgotten era. The tracks that make up this debut album are musical settings of American poet Dorothy Parker's works, who passed away in 1967. This album is raw and uncompromising in many ways. As if sitting in the room with her, Gendron's voice is cracked and unadorned, quietly forced to push and pull between the stillness of the songs and the noisy world outside.
