"When Smoke Rises," the debut album by young poet and songwriter Mustafa, is both a testament to life in Regent Park (a troubled neighborhood in downtown Toronto) and a tribute to the loved ones the artist has seen succumb to street violence. A tragically universal story, played and replayed in many neighborhoods around the world, from which Mustafa draws inspiration for these eight songs "Inner City Folk." The album features contributions from James Blake, Sampha, and Frank Dukes (among others).
