I Killed The Monster is a compilation of 11 tracks written by American composer Daniel Johnston, a legend of lo-fi music, whose classic albums 1990 and Artistic Vice were produced by Kramer in his famous recording studio Noise in New York and released on Shimmy-Disc in 1990 and 1991. All the tracks have been remastered by Kramer in 2022 and will be available for the first time on vinyl. I Killed The Monster features remarkable tracks and performances from some of the greatest talents in independent music, including Danielson & Sufjan Stevens, Kimya Dawson, Dot Allison, Mike Watt, Jad Fair, and Jeffrey Lewis. Kramer produced and mixed most of the songs on the album, and he himself delivers one of the most striking performances of this release, Daniel's grand masterpiece, "Bloody Rainbow." Few artists have gone where Kramer has gone, or have worked with such a variety of artists (Ween, Butthole Surfers, John Zorn, Half Japanese, The Fugs, and Bongwater, and Will Oldham, to name just a few). This extraordinary album showcases Kramer's undeniable prowess, one of the most versatile producers of his generation, and continues the 21st-century renaissance of his iconic label Shimmy-Disc.
