Broadcast in 1982 on Chicago local station WCIU, The Chicago Party was a disco-boogie avatar of Soul Train, featuring rainbow outfits, gravity-defying afros, and, most importantly, stealthy appearances from acts whose discographies were as fleeting as their careers. In February, Numero Group will release the anthology Ultra-HighFrequency: The Chicago Party, a collection of 16 dancefloor tracks recorded between 1980 and 1982 by (among others) Jesus Wayne, Yvonne Gage, Ken Allison, Closencounter, and Universal Togetherness Band, along with a DVD compiling highlights from the show.
