Soul Jazz Records presents this remarkable new collection, The World of Keith Haring, bringing together the music that influenced artist Keith Haring. Keith Haring’s art is now one of the most recognizable of the visual artists of his generation, defining 1980s New York during an intense period when downtown artists and musicians collaborated like never before. Haring’s musical inspiration came from the funk/dance/punk sounds of downtown clubs like The Mudd Club, the underground disco at Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage, as well as the early days of hip-hop and electro. The album’s release coincides with the opening of the first major UK exhibition of Keith Haring’s work, which will take place at Tate Liverpool over a six-month period. The music featured here includes the work of a number of Haring’s close friends, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yoko Ono, Larry Levan, John Sex and George Condo (The Girls), as well as a healthy dose of rare disco, early electro and New York funk/dance/punk tracks. This album is available as a double CD with a 48-page booklet, and as a triple vinyl (+ download code). Both formats of the album feature stunning photographs, detailed notes and interviews.
