A double Digipack album that celebrates the Father of Tango and the 25th anniversary of his passing, both with his most famous Tangos performed by classical artists (Barenboim, Kremer, Rostropovich, Argerich, Pahud, the Alban Berg Quartet, Philippe Jaroussky….) and also his classical compositions. In the 1950s, when Astor Piazzolla came to Paris to study classical composition, Argentine Tango was not considered part of the concert repertoire in Europe, but rather part of the sounds of the street.
His teacher, the formidable Nadia Boulanger, encouraged her Argentine student to develop his roots. This is how he found his path as a composer and virtuoso of the bandoneon. Today considered the Father of the Tango we know, Piazzolla embodies this blend of rhythmic vitality and recognizable orchestral textures.
