The Original Sound Of Cumbia 1948-81

Description

After the successes of "Cartagena!", "Palenque Palenque", "Aqui los Bravos" and "Colombia!", the Soundway label is once again heading to Colombia with "The Original Sound of Cumbia & Porro As told by the Phonograph". Bringing together 55 tracks unearthed and compiled by Will "Quantic" Holland, this new richly documented compilation (the booklet contains texts by Will Holland and original album covers) is the result of 5 years of assiduous research, a true deep dive into the roots of South American music and a genre that, initially considered the sound of the disadvantaged classes, has over the years become the music of an entire nation. The first disc tells the story of cumbia, from its birth on the Caribbean coast and its expansion to Bogota, illustrated by rare tracks, among the oldest recorded in the style. The second disc presents the evolution of the genre, or how big names in Colombian music such as Alberto Pacheco, Toño Fernandez and Anibal Velasquez contributed to enriching cumbia by infusing it with new influences.
