Description

As the trumpet of Louis Armstrong and the alto saxophone of Charlie Parker influenced the course of jazz, the tenor saxophone is among the key instruments in its evolution. From the 1920s and 1930s, Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young were the instigators of opposing styles that first clashed before uniting for the better, notably in the famous Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, or Sonny Rollins, before John Coltrane initiated a new "revolution," continued to this day by Wayne Shorter and thousands of successors that one must go listen to after having, of course, heard in this present CD the sources of a long history that must leave the honorable Walloon Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) astonished from his paradise. With Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas, Ben Webster, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, John Coltrane... But also Chu Berry, Flip Phillips, Arnett Cobb, etc.
