When the Jamaican producer CLEMENT SEYMOUR DODD, known as COXSONE, arrived on the dancehall scene in Kingston in the 50s, few believed in the longevity of the label against the soundsystems of DUKE REID or KING EDWARDS. But the emergence of dancehall as a distinct style of reggae came in the late 70s: more and more producers began to record on rhythms heavily influenced by CLEMENT DODD, an influence that is still felt today. This unique compilation primarily represents STUDIO ONE, the first reggae/dancehall label and its legendary founder CLEMENT SIR COXSONE DODD.
