In 2025, Ace Records (in collaboration with Acid Jazz) highlighted the prestigious catalog of Spring Records with the "Spring Revisited" project, opening the label's archives to some of the biggest names in electronic music to revisit tracks that marked their careers.
A New York-based label, Spring developed alongside the New York club scene, from underground loft parties to disco super clubs, through hip-hop and the Paradise Garage. Quickly, a host of renowned producers, including Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Dave Lee, and Joe Claussell, signed mixes that set dancefloors ablaze. The mixes by Dimitri and Joe dominated the British vinyl charts, with others close on their heels.
With "Spring Originals," we shine a light on the original versions of the tracks reinterpreted on the maxi 45s and the accompanying compilation. We tracked down the original tapes and unearthed not only the commercial versions but also unreleased mixes or those that remained on rare promos or B-sides. Thus, "We Got To Hit It Off" by Millie Jackson, remixed by Dimitri, is available here in its Jim Burgess version, previously only found on a rare promo maxi 45. The same goes for "Love Vibration" by Joe Simon, whose disco remix was hidden on the B-side of a 45. With "Night Fever" by Fatback Band, we uncovered an unreleased extended version that kicks off with a mind-blowing percussion break — ideal for mixing.
