Soul Jazz records presents Congo revolution

Description

CONGO REVOLUTION: Tracing the Origins of Congolese Music Congo Revolution retraces the explosion of Congolese music in the years leading up to independence in 1960. Congolese rumba, a wild combination of African, jazz, and Latin influences, created legendary stars - Franco, Grand Kalle, Tabu Ley, Dr. Nico, Papa Wemba - all of whom are featured here in their early revolutionary groups such as O.K. Jazz, Brazzos, Rock-A-Mambo, African Jazz, and The Beguen Band. Congo Revolution (originally released as a 5 45RPM box set for RSD) includes a 50-page booklet/double sleeve and inner sleeves containing detailed text explaining the evolution of music and Congolese history. It also features stunning images by Congolese photographer Jean Depara, who documented the vibrant nightlife of Congo between 1955 and 1965 and was the official photographer for Congolese superstar Franco until his death in 1989.
