Sam Records: The Sound Of New York City 1975-1983

Description

Here is the story of one of the greatest disco labels, a legendary label that was at the forefront of a genre during its creative peak. Sam Weiss created SAM Records in Long Island in 1976. Sam and his brother Hy were born in Romania before moving to the Bronx in New York when they were young. Sam and his brother are no strangers to the music industry, having worked in it since the mid-1950s, running the OldTown and Parody Records labels. In the mid-1970s, disco took New York by storm and established itself as a revolutionary musical force that reshaped the face of the city. However, it was a genre that the major record labels largely ignored at first. It was the small independent labels that led the way in the early years of disco. This compilation brings together all the classics released by SAM between 1975 and 1983. Offering a treasure trove of essential disco, this compilation includes tracks by Gary's Gang, John Davis & The Monster Orchestra, Komiko, Rhyze, Convertion, Vicky "D", Greg Henderson as well as songs by Lucy Hawkins, K.I.D and many others.
