Mikey Young (Total Control / Eddy Suppression Ring) and Keith Abrahamsson (artistic director at Anthology Recordings) collaborate again after their compilation Follow The Sun (2017) to present Sad About the Times, a collection of North American jams from the 70s. With a hint of West Coast jangle here and there, these tracks blur the line between the power pop of the era and drug-fueled late-night jams. You can also hear echoes of folk rock, soft rock, and even detect some psychedelic flashbacks. However, despite the genre deviations, the atmosphere of Sad About The Times remains dominated by a haunting vocal delivery. These songs follow in the wake of the psychedelic 60s, after extravagant idealism had its time and singer-songwriters took the lead. After the party, reality sets in.
