It is surprising that such a period is so poorly documented. Admittedly, the genesis of rock and roll in France was nothing very flamboyant, and it would take the late arrival in the early 60s of Johnny, Chaussettes noires and other Chats sauvages for rock and roll to really take off. Nevertheless, as early as 1956 many jazz bands multiplied their attempts to establish the genre in France. Under their guidance, French Rock And Roll of the 50s would prove remarkable in many respects: unprecedented with its unusual orchestrations (accordion, clarinet, saxophone, xylophone), impressive because of the quality of its arrangements, or surprising because of its offbeat performers (regional accent, wild vocal timbre). The ROCK ROCK ROCK compilation exhumes some pioneers of this French Rock And Roll and offers a unique testimony to one of the most overlooked aspects of our popular music. So... Rock' On !!!
