Franz Ferdinand, Jane Birkin, Marianne Faithfull, Placebo, Carla Bruni, Portishead, Jarvis Cocker, Françoise Hardy, Cat Power, Michaël Stipe, Tricky, The Kills, Gonzales, Feist, Dani, The Rakes... take part in the singular album in question here. The gamble was a big one: bringing together artists from the international scene to perform English-language adaptations of Serge Gainsbourg’s songs. The lineup and the various versions ultimately brought together exceed expectations. The whole achieves an energy and sensitivity rarely found in the difficult exercise that a tribute represents, even with lyric adaptations by Boris Bergmann. So we will inevitably be pleased to note that not only do many Gainsbourg classics still go down just as well, but we will also be surprised that the cream of pop/rock appropriates them with such relevance or irreverence. 2020 version: Includes two unreleased tracks that were not present on the 2006 version: the explosive cover of Les sucettes by Keith Flint of Prodigy and Angel's Fall by Nina Persson & Nathan Larson.
