LA OLA INTERIOR - Spanish Ambient & Acid Exotism 1983-1990 (vinyl)

Description

SPANISH AMBIENT & ACID EXOTICISM 1983-1990. After 'La Contra Ola', Bongo Joe is delighted to present 'La Ola Interior', a compilation that explores the ambient side of electronic music produced in Spain in the 80s. It brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds and different generations, united by a common desire to create immersive soundscapes and to fuse electronic music with non-Western musical traditions. Little known, even in their country of origin, these pieces of music can be considered pioneers of contemporary electronic experimentation. Música discreta: As the Movida faded and the post-punk wave receded, a new movement of experimental music emerged in Spain in the 80s. It brought together creators who shared a common goal of exploring alternative musical directions to the current paradigm of Western pop. With a strong interest in electronics and recording technologies, these musicians worked off the beaten track, laying the foundations for 21st-century sound experimentation. While these musical styles are part of various movements (electroacoustic, noise, industrial music, collage, etc.), this anthology focuses on ambient music and its links with ethnic tones. Throughout the decade, Spanish artists dedicated themselves to creating ambient music that would "be part of the atmosphere, of the environment, just like the color of the light and the sound of the rain," as one of its founders, Brian Eno, wrote. Born in the 1970s, strongly connected to American minimalist music, German Kosmische Musik, and the discovery of non-Western musical traditions, ambient music is about textures and sound shaping. Unlike the vast majority of Western music, it is little concerned with melody or harmony, and it does not require a narrative structure or rhythm to exist. This is perhaps what makes it so difficult to identify and often causes it to go "under the radar." The Spanish history of this "música discreta" remains largely unknown, even though prestigious labels have recently taken an interest in some of its key figures, such as Luis Delgado or Suso Saiz. By going back to its early years, LA OLA INTERIOR aims to recontextualize Spanish ambient music within the fertile territory of experimental music and, in particular, in its two main breeding grounds: the cassette underground and the scene of independent musician-producers. --- Bongo Joe---. "A BRILLIANT OVERVIEW OF THE SPANISH ELECTRONIC UNDERGROUND OF THE 80S." --- LIBÉRATION ---.
