Kronburden

Description

"Kronbruden" (The Crown Bride) by Ture Rangström remains one of the most performed works of Swedish musical theater. Set in Dalarna at the end of the 19th century, the story tells of the romantic rivalry between the young Mats and Kersti, whose families are in conflict — a Swedish version of "Romeo and Juliet." Rangström's setting of August Strindberg's play, which already incorporates its own musical elements, gives it a powerful and still effective form. The principal roles are sung by Markus Pettersson (Mats) and Elisabet Strid (Kersti). Maria Streijffert plays Kersti's mother, Karl Peter Eriksson her father, Caspar Engdahl the sexton, and Katarina Karnéus Brita. The cast also includes Mats Almgren, Ingemar Andersson, Hannah Körner and Åsa Thyllman, as well as Frida Engström, My Wegnelius Jarlstedt, Philip Engström and Åke Zetterström. The musicians are members of the Men's Choir of the Göteborg Opera Chorus, the Opera Youth Chorus and the Göteborg Opera Orchestra, conducted by David Björkman.
