150th ANNIVERSARY OF SIBELIUS' BIRTH The historical reference box set In December 2015, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Sibelius' birth, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, who left major post-romantic masterpieces, such as Finlandia or the Violin Concerto. Warner Classics presents on this occasion an affordable box set of historical recordings made between 1928 and 1948, which forever marked the interpretation of the Finnish composer. Walter Legge was the driving force behind several of these recordings. Among them, the 7 Symphonies conducted by Robert Kajanus, a contemporary and reference interpreter of Sibelius, Thomas Beecham, Serge Koussevitzky..., the Violin Concerto by Jascha Heifetz, a legendary version... Notably, 2 rarities; Symphony No. 6 is conducted by Georg Schneevoigt, a close friend of the composer, and melodies sung by the immortal Marian Anderson. If we add that these 7 albums have been fully remastered at Abbey Road, we will understand the importance of this anniversary release for Sibelius enthusiasts.
