Lost in the soot and fallout of the infamous collapse of the steel industry in Youngstown, Ohio, was the intergenerational label Tammy founded by Tony March. From its beginnings as a doo-wop powerhouse to its final moments searching for disco hits, Tammy inadvertently documented the small but prolific Black music scene in Youngstown. This album reviews the best R&B, soul, funk, and disco tracks from the label, featuring 13 songs by Ice Cold Love, Lynn Minor, J.C. & the Soul Angels, The Snapshots, Iron Knowledge, Roy Jefferson, and Steel City Band. Presented in a tip-on sleeve, with a booklet filled with notes and ephemeral documents, The Tammy Label continues the tradition of Numero Group, which has been preserving regional music from Ohio for 20 years.
