Death Is Not The End collaborates with the Uzbek label Maqom Soul to release an album following up on their eponymous mixtape from last year. This album compiles exceptional tracks, carefully selected and licensed, from the studios of the former Soviet republics of Central Asia between 1978 and 1989. It features Uzbek, Tajik, Kurdish, and Uyghur artists who blend traditional folk motifs with pop, rock, and psychedelic influences. These recordings do not form a linear and coherent story. They are more akin to a succession of discoveries made at different times and under different circumstances. Songs and instrumental pieces, once embedded in specific contexts—radio broadcasts, philharmonic programs, tours—now coexist, revealing unexpected connections as well as clear ruptures.
