Description

We are in the early 80s, and the No Future movement is struggling to engage these disillusioned young people, eager for experimentation and modernity. In short, punk is bogged down and tiresome. In '79, the release of the hit "Rectangle" by JACNO, a former punk, paves the way and ultimately convinces the most undecided. The furious riffs of Rickenbacker and Fender gradually give way to the cold, robotic Bip-Bip sounds of Casio, Korg MS 10, and other ARP Omni analog keyboards. Növö poses, retro-futurism, elegance, and arrogance of a youth that has found in synthesizers an embraced coldness, and in electric guitars, the Cubass of their generation. Sometimes clumsy, but always sincere, the tinkering and sonic wanderings of these groups are as many proposals and attempts to respond to the musical stagnation of the early 80s. BIPPP thus offers an immersive and educational testimony of this period that foreshadows the emergence of home studios and the explosion of electronic music to come.
