Berlioz anniversary edition

2019 celebrates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the French classical composer, emblematic of a great unbridled romanticism, which undoubtedly has the strongest resonance in the world: Germany, England, Russia... and which has only been recognized in France to the proper extent of his decisive contribution to music for about fifty years. He is also one of those composers whose flagship work is very well known - in this case, the Symphonie Fantastique - and whose other productions, although known on paper, remain to be discovered by the greatest number. This is the goal of this anniversary edition (labeled by the official National Mission Berlioz 2019), to bet on the fact that one does not go directly from a single known work to a desire for a complete collection, but first through a selection of the greatest compositions; ideally served by the conductors who have recorded the legend of Berlioz on disc: Munch, Boulez, Bernstein, Barenboïm, Davis, Ozawa... This festive year brings to light the fascinating personality of Berlioz - composer, conductor, self-taught and genius jack-of-all-trades, with the official ambition to have him enter the Pantheon - the only composer who would benefit from this national recognition. Add to this a public concert at the Bastille this summer, and the countless concerts that will celebrate Berlioz in France this year, culminating in the festival dedicated to him in Isère - his native land - in August.
