Ghetto Records was for Joe Bataan a way to take control over "the Man" (the system) and to escape the neighborhood — a bold move by an artist seeking independence and creative control within an industry that had exploited his talents and treated him as a commodity. Born from despair but driven by hope, Ghetto Records collapsed shortly after its creation. The seven albums in its discography eventually sank into oblivion, exhausted. "The Power of Love" (1971) by Joe Acosta was one of them. Originally from Puerto Rico, Joe Acosta was determined to make a career in salsa and Latin jazz, with the piano as his instrument of choice. In 1969, Acosta formed his first real band, Joe Acosta And His Empresarios, with which he recorded a self-titled album.
