Bickershaw Festival - A 3-day festival in the northwest of England, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, in May 1972, right next to Wigan, featuring one of the best festival lineups ever seen. Captain Beefheart's late-night performance was incredible, and the festival concluded with a grand performance by the Grateful Dead on Sunday. An audience member, 18-year-old Elvis Costello, was captivated by the festival and stated that it convinced him to form a band. Joe Strummer of the Clash, also present as an audience member, said it was his favorite concert. Brinsley Schwarz also played a fantastic set with a West Coast USA vibe - quite wild for a British pub rock band. Jerry Garcia gave a very informative interview about the Grateful Dead's feelings towards festivals, which we are publishing for the first time in its entirety. This first volume of the history of the Bickershaw Festival on LP provides an excellent insight, through the music, into what it was like to be at the festival.
